PHOENIX - Put Bill Belichick behind a microphone and hes C-SPAN — minus the information. Oscar Klefbom Jersey .Pete Carroll is more like a Lifetime movie. Or, as defensive lineman Michael Bennett puts it, He has that Benjamin Button effect on everyone. The Super Bowl coaches approach their obligations to the public and media from opposite ends. Belichick, coaching for his fourth championship in New England, is dry, offers little to no insight and rarely makes anyone laugh. Carroll, looking for his second straight title, is a high-fiving, fist-bumping extrovert who started one of his news conferences this week with a welcoming, Whats up?!?Different styles have produced similar results, though.Belichick is making his sixth Super Bowl appearance as a head coach and his Patriots are as close as there is to a dynasty in the current NFL. Carrolls team is being mentioned as a possible dynasty, as well, and that notion will only gain steam if the Seahawks win Sunday and become the first back-to-back champions since, who else?, New England in 2003-04.Dissimilar as they are, they have both built their teams on a foundation of unflinching candour inside their locker and meeting rooms — a quality Carroll brings to some of his public speaking, but one that Belichick eschews. What you see on TV is what you get, pretty much, from the two, said Patriots cornerback Brandon Browner, who previously played for Carroll in Seattle. They have similarities too, though. Their football IQ is way up there. They are so different, but at the same time theyre the same. Thats why they both have succeeded at this level.Over his 15 years in New England, Belichick has made it increasingly difficult for anyone outside of Patriots Nation to love him. Nobody likes a boring cheater, and that is how hes sometimes portrayed. Its all summed up in his handling of the controversy of Super Bowl week — Deflategate — a subject he has refused to talk about since Saturday, when he held a news conference to deny wrongdoing and announce he was moving on. Were just focused on Seattle this week, hes said, repeating some version of that time and again.A much fuller picture of the coach was painted in the 2013 NFL Network production A Football Life, which gave an inside and genuinely absorbing look at the coach — miked up and behind the scenes during what turned out to be a disappointing 2009 season.Hard not to get choked up about it, Belichick said, barely controlling the tears as he toured his old stomping grounds, the old Giants Stadium, where he won his first two Super Bowl rings as New Yorks defensive co-ordinator. I spent a lot of hours in that room. One trait his old boss, Bill Parcells, turned into an art was figuring out how to get the most from each of his players by treating them individually. Its not a trait Belichick shares, at least in the sense that no one seems to get the Superstar Treatment in New England: High-priced cornerback Darrelle Revis got sent home one day for being late for a meeting. Jonas Gray ran for 201 yards in a win against Indianapolis but has barely been heard from again after showing up late for a meeting.Hes done a good job of treating everybody fairly, treating everybody the same, said Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich. If something goes wrong, he makes sure we know about it. Its all about knowing how to get the best out of everybody.Carroll does the same thing — just differently.Quirky as they come, he once said a book that guided many of his core philosophies was, The Inner Game of Tennis, a 1974 self-help manuscript by W. Timothy Callwey that is about finding the state of relaxed concentration that helps you play your best. Its also about tennis, but the stuff really resonated, Carroll said in an interview while he was coaching Southern California. In keeping with the touchy-feely theme, he has repeatedly made it clear this week that he respects the individuality of his players — from Richard Sherman, who is willing to speak on just about everything, to Marshawn Lynch, who doesnt want to talk about anything. The coachs willingness to bend, however, does not mean he deviates from the consistent routine he established when he came to Seattle after nine years at USC. Wednesdays are Competition Wednesdays. Thursdays are Turnover Thursdays. And so on.Hes got a philosophy he stays true to, said offensive line coach Tom Cable. For a lot of us whove coached a long time, weve been around a lot of great teachers, but their philosophies can go up and down. For him, hes the way he is every day.Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who hired Carroll back in 1997, then Belichick in 2000, called his former coach, pretty special to be around. A lot of fun.He feels he set Carroll back by not giving him the full control he wanted, and the owner adjusted his style when he made the next hire.Everyone benefited: Belichick and the Patriots — and Carroll and Seattle.Theres no big mystery to all this coaching success, Belichick insists. Its about players making the plays that your team needs to win, he said. I think as a coach, you want to make sure you dont screw that up.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org Jesse Puljujarvi Jersey . Early in the first period, Stuart pinched in from the blue line, hit Nash and was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing. Nash remained in the game for the rest of the first period, but did not return for the second. Connor McDavid Jersey .com) - The Toronto Raptors set their sights on a second straight victory with the Oklahoma City Thunder visiting the Air Canada Centre tonight riding a two game streak of their own. http://www.hockeyoilersshop.com/patrick-maroon-jersey/ . Rob Klinkhammer and Mikkel Boedker scored 63 seconds apart in the first period for the Coyotes, who handed the Kings their third straight loss and took over sole possession of eighth place in the Western Conference. Mike Smith made 36 saves.A brutal hit while having a punt blocked sidelined San Diegos Mike Scifres with a broken left collarbone. In came placekicker Nick Novak, charged with one of the most important roles in special teams. He hadnt punted since high school and barely practices it as a pro.Yet he was more than comfortable with the challenge.I can do it, Novak said after punts of 27, 33, 45, 51, 46 and 38 yards in the loss to New England on Dec. 7. I cant do it on Mikes level, but I feel I can certainly get the job done. The pressures not there, because Im sure the expectation is, just catch it and kick it and get it out. ... If you mess up, Well, he doesnt punt. If he does well, its more of a Wow kind of thing. There really was no pressure there.Ah, but usually there is tons of pressure on a placekicker replacing a punter in a game, and vice versa. The only similarities between the jobs are that both players make a living with their foot, and their specialties are critical to field position and scoring.Because there are so many differences in the mechanics of each job, rarely do the kickers and punters practice the others role.Puntings very linear, and your swing is more straight up and through the ball, explained Minnesota field goal kicker Blair Walsh. Kicking, youre coming around it a little bit more and youre worried about a plant.Still, as a pro, Walsh has studied what the Vikings Jeff Locke and other NFL punters do, and believes he could handle the assignment. He even spends some time on Fridays working on punting. You could use the similarities between the two, whether its locking your foot out or having an explosive motion through it, he said, adding that overdoing it must be avoided.Theres definitely similarities you could carry over to each position to make you successful at both, Walsh said. Ive been around it long enough where Ive seen a lot of good punters do the right technique, so you sort of emulate it a little bit in your mind. But I think the biggest thing would just be getting used to the live rush coming at you.Indeed, the rush to get to the punter is a sprint, entirely different and probably more dangerous than attempts to block field goals. While NFL coaching staffs and personnel people try to account for all situations, an in-game injury or illness to a placekicker or punter often falls outside their preparation. San Diego was extremely fortunate that Novak was so successful; the Chargers have a similar history because Scifres did the placement work in the 2011 opener when Nick Kaeding injured his knee.Thats also how Novak wound up in San Diego.Generally, though, its a desperate spot when one oof those guys goes down in a game. Mark Letestu Jersey. I was 70 per cent in college, which is plenty enough to get you cut in the NFL, Saints punter Thomas Morstead said of his placekicking. But Id be a very serviceable backup, I would think, if they need me in a pinch.I can kick it a long ways, but whether it goes between the sticks, you know. ...Theres the rub.Theyre so different, but Im going to say its probably more difficult filling in as a field goal kicker just because theres not much room for error, Jets punter Ryan Quigley said. Punting, youve got the whole field to work with. Its like, when youre punting, you can just say, OK, were going to punt it down the middle and hopefully it stays in bounds and you get a good 40 yards out of it.Punters and placekickers find good reasons not to practice the other guys art. San Franciscos Phil Dawson, now in his 16th season making field goals and extra points, works on punting occasionally. He notes the more I do it, the worse I get.But he points out with a sharp jab that punter Andy Lee trying Dawsons specialty would be worse. Some teams even had other players as the backup punter or placekicker. On the Saints, its second-string quarterback Luke McCown behind Morstead. For Philadelphia, wide receiver Riley Cooper backs up placekicker Cody Parkey.Perhaps the patron saint of replacement kickers is Craig Hentrich, who punted for 16 NFL seasons. Hentrich was a standout at both jobs at Notre Dame, won a Super Bowl as a punter with Green Bay and played in another with Tennessee. He went 3 for 3 on field goals of 49, 34 and 33 yards in the 2003 opener after placekicker Joe Nedney suffered a season-ending knee injury. Hentrich hadnt made a field goal since 1995.Ive seen some punters, actually, step in and have good games kicking when the kicker went down. The most noticeable Ive ever seen is ... Hentrich, Saints placekicker Shayne Graham said. But he was also a respected kicker at Notre Dame in college because he did both, so he had the background for it.Nobody does both in the NFL anymore, except in a pinch. So if Quigley gets called on to replace Folk during Sundays finale, whats his philosophy?Shoot, Id tell them to back it up and put me out there from anywhere, he said with a laugh. Nah, thats the way I think because Id just crank it and use my leg strength. But who knows where its going?___AP Pro Football Writers Teresa M.
